Humanitarian and rocker [lastfm]Bob Geldof[/lastfm] spent yesterday delivering an impressive keynote speech and then an hour-long set for packed house at the Moody Theater. With only an eight hour break in between, there are few others in business who could have a day like that.

To a panel of music industry leaders, consumers, and producers, [lastfm]Bob Geldof[/lastfm] laid into each and every one of them for allowing the sorry state of rock music, but placed the greatest blame on the musicians themselves. Rock music used to serve as commentary on economic and social issues, but now, “What’s music got to say about it? I don’t hear it…Can you imagine the ’60s without the bands interpreting the fast-moving agenda of the times? Maybe this hyper democracy of the Web simply gives the illusion of talent … Everybody has got the means to say anything they want, but nobody has anything to say.”
