When you listen to LAW, there’s something strangely familiar about the sound, but it’s hard to put your finger on it at first. An important clue lies in the frontman’s surname: singer Jakob Nowell is the son of the late Sublime leader Bradley Nowell. And you can hear the resemblance.

Although Nowell’s influences include Tool, Mastadon, Queens of the Stone Age and Tenacious D, his father’s punk-reggae fusion seems to percolate to the surface.

The 21 year-old Nowell, along with guitarist Aidan Palacios, bassist Logun Spellacy, and drummer Nick Aguilar were recently recorded while performing at a backyard party thrown by SullenTV owner John Bayles. The group performed their song called “Know You” in front of an intimate pool-side audience.

Opening for the likes of Mike Watt, Sublime with Rome, Slightly Stoopid, P.O.D. and others, LAW was formed in 2013 and began playing gigs shortly thereafter. The 4-piece released their debut album Mild Lawtism in August 2015, on Skunk Records, the same label that handled father Bradley’s music.
