The Strokes haven’t released a new album since 2013’s Comedown Machine, but a few pieces of the puzzle surrounding their sixth studio album suggest 2016 could be the year listeners get new music.

Here’s what we know so far. In mid-December 2015, the band rented out Monterrey’s Victoria Records. Owner Victoria Morales-Kühne snapped a picture with The Strokes and explained in her caption how they had rented out two of her studios, CoS reported. Even though the band was in town to perform at a festival, they weren’t just using the spaces for rehearsal. They were also tracking new drums.

It sounds as though they recorded something new between December and March because in early spring a music executive tweeted that he was enjoying listening to the band’s new single, according to NME. That tweet was later deleted, so it seems as though The Strokes weren’t ready to share an eventual release date yet.

The final clue has to do with their tour schedule. The Strokes will be performing in New York on May 31 and will return days later to perform at the city’s annual Governor’s Ball. Their tour schedule is as light as it was in 2015, but it sounds like they’re gearing up for something this year.
