There's also new soundtrack music on the way.

Trent Reznor revealed that he and songwriting partner Atticus Ross are making progress on the follow-up to Nine Inch Nails’ 2013 album Hesitation Marks.

“Things are going good and when we have something we think is excellent we will unleash it on the world,” he said, reports Rolling Stone.

Reznor added that he’s enjoying writing for a band again after having spent much of the last year creating music for soundtracks.  “I’m feeling creatively excited,” he said. “And I’ve reminded myself – as I’ve veered off into technology for a while – that the act of writing and self-examination that comes from making music really helps me understand who I am again.”

In addition to writing new songs for Nine Inch Nails, Reznor and Ross continue to work on music for Peter Berg’s movie about the Boston Marathon bombings. Recently, Reznor and Ross also paired up with Argentine film composer Gustavo Santaolalla and Mogwai to score Before the Flood, Peter Berg’s movie about climate change.

“My instinct wasn’t to take it down a happy path, and I don’t think we’ve made light music necessarily, but we didn’t make utter despair filled tracks,” said Reznor. “I can speak for myself and Atticus as fathers of young children: It reframes one’s place in the world and one’s duty, and seeing this wide-eyed innocence and optimism of youth, I want to make sure there is a planet for them.”
