Everyone from Taylor Swift to Sia to Ariana Grande has been encouraging voters to get out and cast their ballot today, but Paramore is going old school with their message.
The band tweeted a video from the 1964 Disney film Mary Poppins, in which Mrs. Banks returns home from a suffragettes meeting, ignores the pleas of her exasperated nanny, and instead bursts into song about fighting to earn the right to vote.
“We’re clearly soldiers in petticoats/ And dauntless crusaders for women’s votes/ Though we adore men individually/ We agree that as a group they’re rather stupid,” she sings in the first verse, teasing the opinion men held at the time that women shouldn’t vote. She follows it up with a rousing chorus, “Our daughters’ daughters will adore us/ And they’ll sing in grateful chorus/ Well done, Sister Suffragettes!”
