U2 frontman Bono recently was named Man of the Year by Glamour magazine for his unyielding support for women. He was honored in the magazine’s Women of the Year ceremony, and during his acceptance speech, the rocker encouraged Donald Trump to prioritize gender equality.

“I say to the president-elect: look across to women, make equality a priority, it is the only way forward,” Bono said after Amy Poehler presented him with the award. “As my daughter Jordan says, there is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunities as men. Unless we address this problem, both men and women together, the world will continue down this misogynistic, violent and impoverished path. The train is leaving the station, be on it or be under it.”

The annual event, held in Los Angeles, also honored Gwen Stefani, founders of Black Lives Matter — Alicia Garza, Patrice Cullors, Opal Tometi — and honoree Emily Doe, the survivor of the Stanford sexual assault, among others. While some questioned Bono’s inclusion, Glamour‘s editor-in-chief Cindi Leive said the rocker’s continuous support for women prompted the inaugural Man of the Year Award.

“There are so many men who really are doing wonderful things for women these days. Some men get it and Bono is one of those guys,” she said.
