"Oh yeah – It’s December, isn’t it?" Trent Reznor mused.

By Hayden Wright

To say the least, Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails have been cagey about the “new music” they “intend” to “release” in “2016.” In October, a fan took Reznor to task on Instagram, asking for a status update on the once-promised 2016 material. Reznor replied, “2016 is not over yet.”

Well, here we are in mid-December and NIN fans still have heard nothing from the industrial rock band. Rolling Stone cornered Reznor on the matter and he gave something of a non-answer:

“Those words did come out of my mouth, didn’t they?” he wondered aloud. “Oh yeah—It’s December, isn’t it? Just wait and see what happens.”

The frontman—who scored the Patriots Day soundtrack with bandmate Atticus Ross—added that folks just need to unplug and cultivate some patience. Reznor wouldn’t say whether we’re waiting for an album, an EP or some other late-breaking holiday gift.

“That will be part of the reveal,” he reports. “I don’t want to spoil it. If I’m interested in a film I prefer not to watch the trailer. We live in overstimulated times.”
